Up, Up and Well...Up

To say the missus was excited to finally watch Up is what we refer to as an understatement. Two weeks ago she asked me to put the DVD to the top of our Netflix Queue and I did. Then she repeatedly asked me about for the next two weeks, not knowing that the movie wasn't coming out til this week. I actually got an email sent to me on Monday saying it had been sent out so we could watch it on Tuesday, which we did.

And it was great. I know I'm not rocking anyone's world by saying that a Pixar movie that everyone in the world loved is good, but I think it might be my favorite Pixar movie. That being said, I don't know if I'll ever watch it again. This movie gets seriously sad you guys. The opening montage with Carl and Ellie was both beautiful and heartbreaking. Seriously, it hit me in the gut. Of course, this is a huge testament to how amazing the Pixar crew is at making these films. I can't remember feeling this way about anyone in a movie in a long time, whether starring people real or animated. Maybe ever. You'll want to give your lady or fella a hug

From there the movie made me laugh, feel tense and almost cry again later. Jerks. But seriously, this is a fantastic movie, but I'd probably watch Wall*E again before this because I don't like feeling super sad, which is the same reason I don't watch Finding Nemo on my own. Though those lobsters with the Boston accents are hilarious ("It was dahk, like WICKED dahk.") Hehe.

Songs I Should Hate But Don't: "Party In The USA"

As much as it pains me to admit it, Miley Cyrus' "Party In The USA" is one damn catchy tune. I know it's been out for a while, but I haven't been getting up early enough to watch videos on MTV, VH1 or Fuse lately, so here you go. Also, I wonder if her favorite Jay-Z song is my favorite Jay-Z song.

Season Finale: Flipping Out

As I mentioned last week, I've been watching the hell out of some Bravo and my personal favorite show on there right now is Flipping Out. It's about an obsessive house flipper-turned-interior designer named Jeff and the people who can stand to work with him.

This season was particularly interesting because Jeff had to deal with the crappy economy (something he handled impressively well, I have to say), but also a string of crummy contractors and some troubles with his former business partner Ryan. See, in addition to not trusting Ryan, Jeff is also close with Ryan and his boyfriend's daughter Chloe.

I've seen various episodes from previous seasons (this is the third), but I think what I liked most about this season is the humanity that starts creeping through Jeff's uber-perfectionist shell. He speaks openly about how the economy has changed his business, but also about Chloe and his regrets when it comes to his past relationship with Ryan (they used to date). It's all very complicated and dramatic, but as I've discovered from being home for over a month now, you can easily catch up on any Bravo show at any time. This season's only 10 episodes long and they're only a half hour long, so it wouldn't be too hard to catch up. I also have to admit, perhaps ashamedly that I share Jeff's dark sense of humor, especially when he talks about accidentally spider bombing one of his clients (he couldn't stop laughing about it and neither could I). Or when he calls party magicians a ring of sex offenders. I lost my shit.

Also, I have to profess my love of Jenni, Jeff's long-suffering assistant. I don't know how this woman has put up with him for as long as she has, but you can tell that they're not just business associates, but friends. I also like how she's so willing to bust a move regardless of time or place. Oh, and she looks almost exactly like Julia Louis-Dreyfus, which is strange. She's an aspiring actress and here's an embarrassing video from her past I found on YouTube!

As it is, the season ends on a bit of cliffhanger with Jeff and Ryan's relationship still up in the air. We have no idea how they're interacting now, but the footage they showed in the commercial for the reunion special makes it look like things get pretty heated. We shall see!

Confessions Of A Danger-ish Mind: Project Runway

Okay, I do watch Project Runway. I can honestly say that it's because Em likes it, but I did sit there last night and watch the rest of the episode after she went to bed and Drag Me To Hell was waiting to be played in my DVD player. So, yeah, I guess I like it. It's definitely not the most embarrassing TV show I like to watch, but more on those in future installments. As it turns out, one of the forerunners of the show is this girl/blonde amazon named Althea Harper who is from Dayton, Ohio. She's won one challenge and finished in the high group three times and has never been in the low group (it's crazy how up to date the Project Runway Wiki page is you guys). So, yes, I watch Project Runway and yes, Althea is the horse I'm backing in this race I was right about neck tattoo guy from a couple season back and even saw him being interviewed outside of the Wizard building one day. See, it's in the same building where the Project Runway people used to stay when the show was still filmed in NYC. So, feel free to put your money on my girl, I've got the magic touch when it comes to these things. To be honest, though, Emerson was my pick up until last week when he get bounced, but secretly Althea was my pick. Seriously. I promise. Anyway, I'm super glad Shirin got bounced, she was crazy annoying, always bitching all the time.
