Brushing Your Teeth With A Bottle Of Jack MIGHT Be Overkill
For the past week or two I've been hearing this song with what sounds like a drunk chick singing about the crazy night she had and the crazier night she's going to have. It's one of songs where you keep hearing it, but miss who sings it. After a quick search I found out her name is Kesha (no idea how to pronounce that) and the song is called Tik Tok, ugh. I haven't figured out if I like it and want to party with her or if it's annoying and she needs an intervention. Seems to me like Kesha here was picked up after Lady Gaga made a big hit with her more mundane party songs like "Disco Stick," but before she started doing crazy videos where she dances in casts. I give it six months before Kesha here is wearing a mask that makes it look like her head is on fire at the next VMAs. Anyway, here's the video:

Songs I Should Hate But Don't: "Party In The USA"
As much as it pains me to admit it, Miley Cyrus' "Party In The USA" is one damn catchy tune. I know it's been out for a while, but I haven't been getting up early enough to watch videos on MTV, VH1 or Fuse lately, so here you go. Also, I wonder if her favorite Jay-Z song is my favorite Jay-Z song.

Rad How I Met Your Mother Music Video
I'm guessing that many of my fellow HIMYM fans who were sitting near a computer after they mentioned www.itwasthebestnightever.com immediately typed it in to find this awesome page. I was glad to see that it wasn't just a replay of the video they showed on the episode, but a whole new video with Jason Segel singing while Nuno Bettencourt played guitar and the other cast members hanging out. If you dug the episode or Segel's singing in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, definitely watch the video below.

Fall Out Boy Love Lost
Check out this story from /Film that combines two of my favorite things: Lost and FOB. Apparently the Fall Out Boys were brought in to help promote all the build up for the final season. I haven't really been paying much attention to all that (I'd get all twitterpated), but I do love the Dharma gear they're playing and Pete Wentz giving a shout out to Driveshaft. Good stuff. Here's the video:

Brutally Honest Video Not Personal But Hilarious
I have a confession to make, I love pop punk music. Green Day and Blink-182 Green Day were big with me when they started hitting big and I still dig both bands. Plus, as I've mentioned on here before, I really dig Fall Out Boy and the last Plain White T's record is pretty good. It's just fun, fast music that you can enjoy either in bits or as full albums. That being said, I take a lot of these bands on a case by case basis to see if they're bringing anything new to the table. I'm not sure if I like All Time Low yet, though in a weird twist of fate, I saw this video for their song "Weightless" the day after I saw them on the only episode of Conan's Tonight Show I've seen (I know, I'm bad for not watching it more often).
Anyway, I really like the floating word theme behind the video, especially when it pokes fun at ATL, makes fun of the people Twittering ( roughly "No one cares what you're doing.") and the appearances by FOB's Pete Wentz and Blink's Mark Hoppus. Even if you hate pop punk music, check the video out, I bet you'll get a kick out of it.

Toys and Cartoons in Music Videos!
I'm not sure if I like either of these songs as songs, but I dug the videos.
First up, Owl City's "Fireflies" which has a dude playing the song in a retro kids room full of toys. I spotted Robo Sapien, Speak and Spell and a bunch more, it's good stuff:
Second, I was struck by the unique animated style of this Death Cab For Cutie video yesterday morning, though, for the life of me, I couldn't remember the name of the band until well over 24 hours later. I was only able to remember it based on the director's last name being Robot (his name's Walter Robot and his site's pretty rad). The song's called "Grapevine Fires."

Yet Another Reason To Be Terrified By Parenthood
Hey gang, one of the reasons I haven't posted in a while is because Em and I made the long trek home (Michigan actually) for a family reunion. I got to meet my cousin's kids for the first time and they were adorable, so, of course, thoughts of kids have been dancing around lately. Then, this morning after possibly breaking my toe a letting out a torrent of profanity (how do you know if your pinky toe is broken?), I saw this video by a kid named Justin Bieber called "One Time."
Here's the red flags I see: Two 13 year old kids are hanging out unsupervised in Usher's house. It apparently takes approximately 20 seconds to get a house party going thanks to technology. Girls seem to dress way...less than I remember. This party's lame, no one's even throwing stuff in the pool. Where's the beer? Plus, you don't zip your hooded sweatshirt up to the middle, it's either most-of-the-way or nothing! Damn kids, get off my lawn! Wait, what was I talking about? I think my old man is showing (not a euphemism, well not a dirty one).

Funny Guys In Music Videos
There's a strong tradition of funnymen appearing in music vidoes and I just saw a pretty great one from Colbie Caillat (she's like a female Jack Johnson (ie chill), but super cute) and fairly new SNL cast member Bobby Moynihan as kind of a d-bag guy (he has a Louis Viton surfboard). Here's their date:

I especially like this video because I know a guy who knows Bobby, so it almost feels like a local boy done good situation even though I've never met him.
Anyway, here's a few more comedians in music videos that I dig. Next up, Jack McBrayer in Mariah Carey's "Touch My Body." It's like the diva version of Colbie's video:

And here's a classic I remember from when I was a kid. I had to do a search for Robin Williams music video and slapped myself in the forehead when teh restults came back with "Don't Worry Be Happy" by Bobby McFerrin:
Finally, here's Chevy Chase in Paul Simon's "You Can Call Me Al"

I Can't Tell If Mariah Carey's New Video Should Be Funny or Scary
Seriously, it's both over the top and creepy. And then the thing at the very end is awesome, but my favorite part is when the stalker dude is singing Mariah's song in his ultra creepy room.

A Few Things I Want To Do After Watching Videos This Morning
Thanks to MTV, Fuse and VH1 there are several new things I now have to add to my bucket list and that doesn't even count all the mellow-rock-dudes-playing-pianos I now want to punch in the face.
Go to Vegas with Katy Perry and the dude from Grandma's Boy and Dodge Ball (two of my favorite comedies), even if it means I lose all my money.
At least I'd get to hang out with Katy Perry (what happened to all the awesome retro clothes though?!), mess with Penn and Teller and win a butt-ton of money, even if just for a moment. I'm not sure how I feel about that whole Groundhog Day-like cyclical thing though.
I also want to go to party at the Black Eyed Peas' house. It looks like a lot of fun:
>
A few of my favorite moments:
All the Yiddish (if I knew how to spell the words, I'd write them out, but I'm just a dumb Catholic boy).
DRANK!
Taboo looking like Bruno (cross promotion perhaps?)
Black lights/Green hands
And, of course, Fergie's tacked-on brushes with lesbianism.
Still, this looks a lot more fun than any party I've ever been to, thrown or heard about.
I also wouldn't mind hanging out with the Cage the Elephant guys, I think we'd get along well (love this album by the way):

Songs I Should Hate But Don't: "That's Not My Name"
I first heard this little ditty by The Ting Tings back when Opie and Anthony were still on the air here in New York (damn you whatever KROCK is called now!). They were basically saying how they wanted to hate it, but it's just so damn catchy. It wasn't until a few weeks or months later that I heard the full thing while in the car with Em (she's always got one pop station or another on) and it turns out they're incredibly right.

Finally, The Perfect Synthesis of Star Wars, Star Trek and Hip Hop
Now that the Star Trek hype has settled down, I bet you, like me, thought you wouldn't be seeing any more Star Trek references on TV or in music videos. That'd be kinda lame right? Kind of out of touch? Well, like Eminem , Dream disagrees with my sentiments.
I've gotta warn you, this song is stupid, even Kanye's part is just okay, which is too bad because his first two albums are pretty rad. But, if you're looking for what looks like the bridge of the USS Enterprise on the Millennium Falcon, then this is the video for you.

Ida Maria Only Likes You When You're Naked
As you already know, because you pay attention to all of the inane crap I say on this site, I've got to turn on MTV, Fuse and VH1 for videos to not fall back asleep in the morning. Well, in addition to seeing that Eminem video I made fun of last week and Lady Gaga's "Poker Face" TWICE, I got a nice treat in the form of a band I've never heard of called Ida Maria. The song is called "I Like You So Much Better When You're Naked" and it's a cool take on garage rock. The video itself isn't all that awesome, but it got me kinda pumped, which is the whole point of watching these things, instead of the usual, which is I get so sick of watching the same crappy videos over and over that I get up and get ready for work.
I'll probably check their (her? it might be a name, who knows?) record out and maybe even do a little research, which I haven't done yet. Expect some kind of review if/when I do.

Seriously?
Hey gang, Eminem is back and taking aim at some of the biggest names in Hollywood in his new video "We Made You." And by biggest names in Hollywood I mean Bret Michaels, Jessica Simpson, Kim Kardashian, Sarah Palin and Star Trek.
Way to come out swinging.
Apparently, embedding this video as been disabled, so you can check it out here if you're so inclined.
This is the video I woke up to this morning when I turned MTV on as I usually do in the morning so as to not fall back asleep (usually flipping between MTV, Fuse and VH1). I gotta say, I've never been a fan of Eminem, but this song sounds really weak (mostly the mix because, as usual, I have no idea what he's saying). Plus, the whole Guitar Hero/Rock Band backdrop feels old already, but I'm one of the least in-touch people in the world, so who knows?
In other video news, Britney Spears is hot again AND thinks she's clever. It looks way better on TV.
