My buddies who work on the Marvel Super Heroes What The--?! banged out another hit today over on Marvel.com with this Twilight parody using the Marvel Legends Monsters box set from a few years back. Well done sirs! If you don't laugh at Dracula's line "These kids today with their emo vampires and too-tight trousers" you're out of your mind.
I can't say I have a personal problem with Twilight because it hasn't affected me in any kind of personal way. I can only say that the chaste vampire craze is a bit weird, that's not how Sita, the star of Christopher Pike's book series The Last Vampire rolled.
I found this clip on YouTube while trying to find a clip of Judd Apatow on The Dating Game which he mentioned on his episode of Inside The Actor's Studio. It was a great episode that I recommend for any fan of his. Anyway, I read the description of this video of my favorite horror actor and fellow brother of Alpha Sigma Phi Vincent Price on The Dating Game. Now, Mr. Price wasn't trying to get a date for himself, but was acting in the steed of Ms. X (who turned out to be actress Janit Baldwin), which meant that he was tasked with asking three suitors several bawdy questions. I'm guess it's from 1972 because he's constantly talking about Dr. Phibes Rises Again. I'm particularly fond of the question where Price asks how one contestant would kill the others to get to the girl. The clip might be a bit long, especially if you don't skip through the prizes at the beginning, but there were enough giggles to keep me going. The prize? A Halloween date with Ms. Baldwin at the Magic Castle, the renowned magician club in Hollywood. I want to go to there.
I'm just glad they don't say which city these pics come from on PeopleOfWalMart.com. If by some crazy stroke of craziness you haven't perused the site by now, do yourself a favor and do so. I'm especially shocked by the huge number of cars with crazy crap glued onto them. You can check them out here. Enjoy that.
I can't be the only one loving these commercials for Reebok EasyTone shoes which are apparently designed to tone your butt...easily. Aside from showing a cute girl walking around in short shorts, I love that the commercial doesn't shy away from actually using the word "butt." So many informercials and commercials wuss out and use "fanny" or "backside." What are we children? Just say "butt!"
It might seem like the commercial is aimed at men because of the aforementioned cute girl and the camera's wandering eye, but here's my take on it after watching three seasons of Mad Men. Women will want to buy these shoes not only for the reason that it's an easy way to tone your butt (which the commercial easily conveys), but also because the ladies want to draw the eyes of the cameramen in their lives (or on the street). Think about it. Thanks Don Draper!
Maybe I'll get a pair for myself, I could use some tightening.
This weekend I will be attending the wedding of the Internet's Ben Morse and his lovely bride-to-be Megan (aka, Miss Martian and Kinsey), so I won't be able to wax poetic about horror movies. Instead, I'm bringing you Ghost Droppings and Dracula Droppings, two kinds of candy that are trying to sell themselves based on the idea that they are shit. Literally. I saw these at Adams and just had to take a picture. In reality they are Yogurt Peanuts and Cinnamon Balls (which sound gross). If you're like me and completely immature, this will give you a good little chuckle. Don't worry, I'll be back with a more substantial Halloween Scene posts on Sunday. I'll also be revealing parts of my awesome Halloween costume (I'll give you a hint, it's a superhero!).
First and foremost, go over to Topless Robot and check out my list of the 12 Weirdest Horror Movie Theme Songs!!!
Now that I'm done hyping myself, here's a couple cool things my friends are up to. Ben got a brand new Nova sketch of him standing triumphantly over Iron Man.
Also, head over to The Source to get a look at Titans/Power Girl/R.E.B.E.L.S. editor (and another former Wizardite and friend) Brian Cunningham to get a look at his office. I've always loved these insider looks ever since Wizard did One Of The Damned way back in the day. Check out this awesome DC calendar from 1986 he has on his wall!
Now onto people I'm not friends with. Why would you do this to your kid? (via Awkward Family Photos)
I wish I was friends with He-Man. Check out this Holy Taco guest column written be He-Man in defense of, well, He-Man.
I saw this over on Collider. It's one of those tuk-tuk drivers in the city who dresses as Spider-Man and does all kinds of cool flippies. They made fun of him, but I think it's rad. I'd gladly take a ride from this guy (and promptly blow chunks afterwards). I think it would be worth it. Especially if you happen to run into Doc Ock or the Lizard while going from one place to another.
It's been over a month since I've been a regular in New York City, but I just had to share this picture of a wall sculpture in Penn Station. It wasn't on our usual route, so I didn't see it for a while, but when I did, I stopped dead in my tracks (something I hate when other people do while walking anywhere in the city), pointed like David Brent points at the Bart Simpson doll and just looked between it and Rickey and Ben. The resemblance is crazy, right? It looks just like Steve Martin! Anyone know the story of this thing?
I was rooting around my Drop Box, taking stock of what images I have in there that haven't made it up on the blog yet and came across these hilarious candles we saw when we went to Oktoberfest.
You can buy your own jars of Mmm...Nice Melons and Smell My Nuts at Our Own Candle Company's site. From what I remember, they did smell pretty good. You know, if you want your house to smell like entendre (double or otherwise).
I know this is almost a year old, but has anyone else seen this highly ambitious fan film that mixes just about every cartoon and comic universe you can imagine into a stew of awesomeness? Here it is in its entirety.
The short answer is yes. Not only can you now get your Snuggie in leopard and zebra print, but now your dog can get one too. That's right, your fur-covered dog can now get his or her own blanket with sleeves. You know, four of them. I've seen this commercial a few times and, while trying to find it on YouTube, stumbled across ever more.
Here's the one I keep seeing, notice the booty bump, roof raising and old man without a Snuggie at the football game. All he has is a stupid jacket, HA!:
Here's the one that asks what we've all been asking "When will you make designer Snuggies?" The answer is now.
This one specifically targets people who want their pets to look like assholes too:
Just saw this on TV and thought it was pretty funny. You've got everyone from girl Robin to Captain America and Harry Potter to Jack Sparrow. I'm sure MJ was thinking of this as his legacy.
EDIT: So, apparently the video I copied from the Party City website just plays automatically. I've seen what can happen to a website that automatically plays pointless videos in the top right-hand corner, so just follow this link if you're still interested.
I know I've been only half paying attention to a lot of movies lately. It's because I like to have something on in the background while I'm looking for jobs online or trying to scrounge of freelance. Also, I may or may not be addicted to my new laptop. Either way, it takes a lot for a movie to really hold my attention and while Ice Pirates (1984) may not have done it for the entire movie, there were some ridiculously funny parts that I've been able to find clips of on YouTube so you can share in the enjoyment. As you can probably tell from the poster, the movie is a Star Wars/sci-fi spoof that's a little more serious than Space Truckers and Star Slammer. They live in a universe where water is at a premium, hence the name "ice pirates." It also stars Robert Urich, Anjelica Huston, Bruce Vilanch, John Carradine and Ron Perlman.
First off, I present to you "space herpes."
This one may not be safe for work, but you can't go wrong with a robot 70s style pimp.
Admittedly, this is the end of the movie and a huge spoiler, but you're treated to time being sped up, which results in everyone getting super old and moving in sped up cuts thanks to a time bomb. It's pretty ridiculous in a good way.
I can't decide if releasing video dating clips from the 80s or early 90s (or any time for that matter) is a huge violation of privacy or a hilarious look into people's lives with some clever editing. Right now, I'm leaning towards that latter, especially after seeing this video on Boner Party.
I was hard at work today on my first freelance assignment for Marvel.com, an interview with comic fan and Chicago Bear Lance Briggs (I'll keep you posted when it goes live), so I didn't post as much during the day today. I'm also working on an X-Men piece that turned out to be a lot longer than I expected so I'll probably break it up into pieces, but I didn't want to draw attention to a few things I saw today.
Topless Robot's got a great list of the 17 Coolest G.I. Joe and Cobra Animal Sidekicks. I have way too many of these in my collection.
/Film has a story about a robot boxing movie. I'm sure it's no Robot Jox, but I love this image they ran with it.
There's also a CGI Night of the Living dead movie called NOTLD: Origins that Romero has nothing to do with. It's also being said it'll be in 3D. I'm in! (via /Film)
Rickey's got another awesome Swayze tribute piece up, this one's from Point Break.
